ABOUT ME.
How many times do we dream
of doing something important, something monumental, something that is greater
than ourselves, only to end up settling for “what is”, because we lacked the
courage and the internal fortitude to ask “what if?” To “do”… without the
dead weight of “I will try”.
The truth is we can fail at
doing something we hate just as easily as we can fail at doing something we
love. I wish that was my own insight, but it came from a video on
YouTube, the commencement exercises of Maharishi University of Management-- a
speech given by funny man Jim Carey.
That is what this Blog is
all about—me doing something that I love, because I love
doing it.
I am a classically trained
musician, teacher, businessman and after graduating Bradley University in
Peoria, Illinois; I worked in the local venues in and around the mid west as an
entertainer, and then later in Los Angeles, California. For several years
I was a behind the scenes director for Doc Severinsen and the Tonight Show
Orchestra during the Johnny Carson days. Then a friend and I started a
production company in a studio high in the hills overlooking Los Angeles, in a
place called La Cresenta.
Growing disillusioned with
Hollywood I finally moved with my new wife and even newer baby daughter to
Nashville, TN. At the time I thought to go back into the publishing and
entertainment business, but surprisingly (and unexpectedly) an opportunity in
healthcare rerouted my career path yet again. Today I work in business development for a national healthcare company, and I am also something that I always wanted
to be...a writer.
Over the last few years my
articles on business development and healthcare have appeared in national
magazines and I am the ghostwriter (and speechwriter) for several prominent CEOs
in the healthcare industry. I have written two novels, several children’s
short stories including a Christmas story that I published nationally last
year, and any number of pieces that I hope to make available on this site very
soon.
This blog is a journey of
sorts. When I began in December of 2014, I wanted it to be inspiring, and entertaining, and maybe at times,
even a little thought provoking. Hopefully it will make you laugh, and sometimes
cry, but always give you pause to think about things in a way that you might
not have thought about them before. And my goal is that you will always
leave with more than you came. And if you do and something I have written
moves you, or touches you, or makes you laugh-- let me know. I am here,
just on the other side of the print, waiting to hear from you.
